PM Modi Inaugurates Electric Locomotive Plant in Dahod

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a cutting-edge electric locomotive manufacturing facility in Dahod, Gujarat, on 26th May 2025. The plant, developed by Indian Railways, is designed to produce 9,000 horsepower (HP) electric engines tailored for both domestic deployment and international markets. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for various infrastructure initiatives in the region, with combined investments exceeding ₹24,000 crore.

Accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, PM Modi flagged off the first electric locomotive assembled at the site. Capable of pulling heavy freight trains at speeds of up to 120 kmph, these new-generation engines come with driver-friendly upgrades including air conditioning, onboard toilet facilities, and an advanced collision-prevention system.

Modern Technology for Enhanced Efficiency and Sustainability

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Dahod facility is aligned with the government’s push to modernize India’s transportation infrastructure while promoting energy efficiency. The locomotives are built with regenerative braking systems and other energy-saving features, contributing to a more sustainable freight ecosystem. The high-powered engines are expected to significantly expand the carrying capacity of Indian Railways, supporting both economic growth and environmental goals.

Multiple Rail Projects Unveiled, Roadshow Held in Vadodara

In addition to the manufacturing plant, PM Modi also launched several rail services, including the Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad and a new express train linking Valsad and Dahod. These projects are part of a broader initiative to enhance regional connectivity.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister held a lively roadshow in Vadodara as part of his two-day Gujarat visit. Expressing gratitude on social media, he wrote, “Thank you, Vadodara! Extremely delighted to be in this great city. It was a splendid roadshow and that too in the morning! Gratitude to all those who showered their blessings.”
