Japanese automotive parts giant Yazaki, with global revenues of $17 billion and operations in 46 countries, has expanded its Indian operations by launching a new manufacturing plant in Chennai. With this addition, Yazaki now operates close to 1 million square feet of space across the NCR, Hosur, and Chennai regions.
This strategic expansion is in collaboration with Horizon Industrial Parks, the logistics platform owned by Blackstone in India. Horizon currently manages over 50 million square feet of leasable industrial and warehousing space across the country. Yazaki, which runs 12 plants in India and employs approximately 300,000 people worldwide, is focused on integrating sustainability, modernization, and safety across its Indian facilities through this partnership.
Chengalpattu: A Rising Industrial Powerhouse
Located within Horizon’s Chengalpattu Industrial Park, the new 316,000-square-foot plant is Yazaki’s third facility with Horizon and will create over 2,000 new jobs. The facility incorporates rooftop solar power and is part of Yazaki’s effort to build environmentally responsible and efficient manufacturing spaces.
“Chengalpattu is quickly emerging as a major manufacturing destination, thanks to its connectivity to the Chennai port via the new peripheral ring road,” said Urvish Rambhia, Director at Horizon Industrial Parks. He highlighted the influx of major players in automotive, electronics, and chip manufacturing in the area, further bolstered by the upcoming SIDCO industrial estate at Kodur Village.
Sustainable Growth Across India
Beyond the new Chennai facility, Yazaki operates two other major plants with Horizon — a 260,000-square-foot plug-and-play unit in Hosur launched in 2023, and a similarly sized facility in Farukhnagar, NCR. Both plants are designed to meet the highest green standards and have received Platinum ratings from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
“After assessing several industrial developers, we chose Horizon for their proven track record of quality and timely execution,” said PV Raju, CEO of Yazaki India. “They helped us launch the Hosur facility in just six months. Horizon shares our commitment to high-quality, dust-free, and safe work environments for our over 4,200 employees across Hosur and Farukhnagar.”
Founded in 1941 and headquartered in Japan, Yazaki has expanded far beyond its automotive origins. Today, the company is active in a range of sectors including gas and air-conditioning systems, instrumentation, solar-heat technology, agriculture, and more recently, nursing care and recycling.
