First Indian Facility to Produce Wheelsets for Domestic Use and Export
Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), in partnership with Tatravagonka a.s., has inaugurated the Bonatrans India wheelset plant in Aurangabad. This new plant marks a significant step in JWL’s expansion strategy, positioning the company as a key global supplier of rail wheelsets. It is the first facility in India capable of producing wheelsets for both local consumption and export, helping to reduce India’s reliance on imports and addressing the growing demand in the Indian rail sector and international markets.
Production Capacity Set to Grow as Demand Increases
The plant’s initial production capacity is set at 1,000 wheelsets per month, with plans to increase this to 5,000 wheelsets per month over the next two years. JWL has also announced a collaboration with Schuler India for the supply of forging machinery, which will further enhance the plant’s capacity. This partnership is aimed at meeting rising local market needs while tapping into emerging global markets.
Strategic Collaboration to Boost Efficiency and Quality
The launch event was attended by senior leadership from Jupiter Wagons Ltd., Tatravagonka a.s., Andritz, and Schuler India, underlining the significance of this strategic alliance. Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of JWL, emphasized that the plant will not only cut supply chain costs but also enable domestic production of much-needed wagon components. The collaboration with Schuler India will improve JWL’s technological capabilities, enabling the production of high-quality, “Made in India” wheelsets for both domestic and export markets, setting new standards in the rail equipment industry.
