Shibaura Machine India Major Investment to Boost Production
Shibaura Machine India (SMI), a subsidiary of Japan’s Shibaura Machine, has officially opened its new factory in Chembarambakkam, Chennai, India. The state-of-the-art facility, built with an investment of Rs. 225 crore, is set to significantly enhance SMI’s manufacturing capabilities. This expansion is expected to increase the company’s production capacity from 1,200 to 4,000 units annually in a phased manner.
Advanced Features and Commitment to Innovation
The new factory boasts cutting-edge features including a technical demo centre, a fully air-conditioned environment for producing electric injection moulding machines, and green-certified infrastructure with rooftop solar panels. It also includes a high-load capacity facility designed for extra-large injection moulding machines up to 3,500 tonnes. This facility aligns with SMI’s commitment to sustainability and advanced manufacturing technologies, ensuring high-quality production and operational efficiency.
Strategic Growth and Future Prospects
Inaugurated by Mr. Shigetomo Sakamoto, President of Shibaura Machine Group, the new facility underscores India’s strategic importance to the company. “India represents a growing market for our products, thanks to its skilled workforce and favourable business environment,” Sakamoto stated. Mr. M. Kumar, Managing Director of SMI, highlighted the company’s growth since its inception in 2012, with production capacity doubling and sales revenue tripling. The new investment aims to further expand product offerings, increase customer base, and support the Make in India initiative.
