INOX Air Products Unveils Green Hydrogen Plant for Float Glass Manufacturing at Soniyana, Rajasthan

INOX AP Unveils Green Hydrogen Plant

INOX Air Products, India’s leading manufacturer of industrial, electronic, and medical gases, has successfully commissioned its first green hydrogen production facility. Located at Asahi India Glass Limited’s (AIS) state-of-the-art float glass plant in Soniyana, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, this initiative marks a major step toward sustainable industrial practices. Under a long-term 20-year off-take agreement, INOX will supply green hydrogen to AIS, supporting its transition to environmentally responsible manufacturing.

Powered entirely by solar energy, the plant has the capacity to generate up to 190 tons of green hydrogen per year through electrolysis. This breakthrough marks India’s first application of green hydrogen in float glass production, paving the way for cleaner, more sustainable glass manufacturing.

A Long-Term Commitment to Decarbonization

INOX Air Products will oversee the design, engineering, installation, and continuous supply of green hydrogen to AIS. The first phase will see the delivery of 95 tons per annum to the facility, significantly reducing carbon emissions. AIS has also invested in a dedicated solar power plant to ensure that the hydrogen produced is entirely renewable, aligning with its sustainability and decarbonization goals.

Commenting on the launch, Siddharth Jain, Managing Director of INOX Air Products, stated, “Our green hydrogen supply will help cut CO2 emissions at the AIS facility by approximately 1,250 tons per year. Green hydrogen is set to play a transformative role in India’s energy transition.”

AIS Strengthens Sustainability Commitments

Rupinder Shelly, COO-Architectural Glass at AIS, emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainability, noting, “The commissioning of this green hydrogen plant reinforces our commitment to eco-friendly manufacturing. At our Soniyana facility, we aim to meet 94% of our energy needs through renewable sources, continuing to invest in sustainable innovations.”

AIS’s new greenfield float glass project in Rajasthan, developed with technology support from AGC Europe, is set to produce high-quality glass for automotive and architectural applications. The partnership with INOX Air Products is a testament to India’s growing focus on clean energy solutions and reducing industrial carbon footprints.
