Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has announced plans to build a dedicated electric motorcycle manufacturing plant in India, with operations set to begin by 2028. The initiative aligns with Honda’s global vision of launching 30 electric two-wheeler models by 2030, targeting annual sales of four million units.
Dedicated EV Production to Begin by 2028
During a press conference in Tokyo, Daiki Mihara, Chief of the Motorcycle and Power Products Electrification Business Unit, confirmed that Honda’s new facility in India will focus on producing a variety of electric motorcycle models. This move is part of the company’s strategy to accelerate EV adoption and strengthen its presence in one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets.
Strategic Push to Become India’s Leading Two-Wheeler Brand
At the same event, Honda Motor Co. Executive Officer Minoru Kato highlighted the company’s robust dealer and service network of 6,000 outlets across India. He emphasized that Honda’s growing sales volumes position it strongly to surpass its former partner, Hero MotoCorp, and secure the number one spot in the Indian two-wheeler market.
With this expansion, Honda aims to drive the future of electric mobility while reinforcing its dominance in the Indian automotive landscape.
